Silver Screen Classic Movie Series continues with “Notorious,” from 1946. Ingrid Bergman, the fast daughter of a Nazi spy, falls in with agent Cary Grant. He wants to get the goods on Nazis in Rio. She infiltrates this gang by marrying Nazi Claude Rains. But when she and Cary learn too much about these guys, she’s in deep trouble. This movie is shown in the Beecher Room of the Auburn Library, 350 Nevada St. in Auburn. Presented by the Library, the movie is free. It’s a suspicious, uncomfortable triangle. Grant must retain his connection to Bergman, increasing Rains’ distrust. Rains can’t dismiss Grant, because he keeps showing up. And when  Rains discovers that his wife isn’t who he thought she was, he must work to solve a terrible problem before his Nazi community discovers his terrible mistake.

“My favorite Hitchcock picture… the very quintessence of Hitchcock,” said director François Truffaut.
