Peter (Pete) John Dittmer, age 74, of Foresthill, CA, died restfully in his sleep on Friday, December 7, 2018 following complications related to an autoimmune disorder. Pete was born in Oroville, California, October 11, 1944. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry (Hank) Dittmer and Myrtle Ramona Dunning Dittmer Diederich and his brother, Michael Delbert Dittmer. Pete is survived by his sister Cheryl Buck and brother Patrick Dittmer (Kathryn), 3 nieces, 5 nephews; 6 grand-nieces and 4 grand-nephews.

Pete provided home and family for over 30 years with Janice “Cookie” Jackson and her two sons, Brandon and Justin, both of Auburn, CA. He often expressed pride in his parenting and being a grandparent to Brandon’s four children, Ashley, Jordan, Brooklyn, Kindal and Justin’s two children, Pierce and Piper. Pete attended Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento where he played football and baseball. He attended Sac City College where he played baseball. He played softball on a Foresthill league team and was a fierce challenger at Foresthill’s annual Ride and Tie event. Competing in outdoor sports included his being a champion-level contender on the links in the gentleman’s game of golf. He was a fisherman extraordinaire where he enjoyed annual ocean outings with lifelong companions. His connection to the land was gratified when working with friends in Oregon’s ranch country. Pete served 2 years in the U.S.Army, serving a distinguished tour in the Viet Nam war. He owned and managed his own logging business for over 40 years, retiring in 2018.

Adventure, hard work; care of community, friends and family; leadership and perseverance defined Pete’s specialties. His greatest pleasure was the love and camaraderie among his countless friends from childhood and those accumulated throughout his life.

A celebration of life will be held March 30, 2019 at 2:00PM at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Foresthill, 24601 Harrison Street. A procession of log trucks through town will precede the service. Military honors will be given by American Legion Post #587.
