After the wet, gray winter we just had, the sun is out and the birds are singing, stuff is growing, and we are sneezing. If you are looking to avoid the after-effects of allergy medication and ready to take on your seasonal misery naturally, look into using essential oils.
An allergic response is when our body sees seasonal foreign invaders as a threat and mounts an overactive immune response to defend against them. This includes a release of histamines, causing sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, inflammation, whatever it takes to protect the body. There are a number of essential oils that can address both the symptoms and the inappropriate response to a normally harmless substance.
Three of the most popular essential oils, when used together, are commonly referred to as the “allergy trio”. These are lemon, lavender and peppermint. Here’s how they work:
Lemon: This versatile oil works in a variety of ways, addressing symptoms like cutting phlegm and cleansing sinuses, additionally it helps to detoxify the body and boost the immune system’s efficiency with various antioxidants and active ingredients.
Lavender: This oil is a natural anti-histamine, working to calm and soothe the histamine response, as well as being anti-inflammatory.
Peppermint: This powerful oil can open airways, calm coughing, relieve a stuffy nose, cool an inflamed throat and reduce inflammation.
Other oils helpful are melaleuca, which can inhibit the release of histamines and support the immune system; frankincense can be helpful to stop a cough and relieve inflammation of the throat and nasal passages, as well as strengthen the immune system.
The best way to use this natural approach is to start now by taking them internally on a daily basis as long as pollens and other triggers are present, as well as applying them from a rollerball along the bottoms of the feet using the reflexology points associated with the body parts affected.
Please remember to use only pure, unadulterated oils. If you are not sure which ones to use, please contact me. You can also get allergy rollerballs at Z’s Boardwalk Boutique. Now, go enjoy the sun!
