First of all, let’s be clear that inflammation is a good and necessary thing. It is our body’s first line of defense against foreign invaders and infections, and without a properly functioning inflammatory response we would die! It is when this response is not properly functioning and we have chronic inflammation that disease and discomfort become a way of life for us.
Many of us suffer from chronic inflammatory diseases, including arthritis, cancers, auto-immune disorders and asthma. We take anti-inflammatories, both prescribed and OTC, usually causing more issues than they help. There are many natural remedies and steps we can take to reduce chronic inflammation that are both inexpensive and relatively easy. First step is to include plenty of anti-inflammatory foods and avoid those that tend to increase inflammation. This is where turmeric proves beneficial.
Turmeric has been used for centuries for cooking and medicinal purposes. Most of us using turmeric for medicinal purposes take it in the form of a powder or capsule, hoping to take advantage of the curcumin in it that has shown to be a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. Unfortunately, most of them currently on the market are of low quality, and even the highest quality turmeric is at best 3% bioactive (meaning, our bodies can only use about 3% of what we consume). You will see some supplements that say theirs has a higher bioavailability due to the addition of piperene from black pepper, but in order for them to have therapeutic amounts, it renders the supplement toxic to our livers.
A good alternative is turmeric essential oil, which contains a different type of curcuminoid: turmerone. Essential oils are bioavailable and easily recognized and used by our bodies. But now, for the first time ever, a new supplement is available, combining the power of curcumin from the turmeric powder, and turmerone from the essential oil, in one duo-capsule. This capsule is patented and clinically tested for effectiveness, purity and therapeutic value. The design of the capsule allows for release to the bloodstream from the intestines, rather than sitting in the stomach while the capsule disintegrates. In addition, the presence of both curcuminoids allows for a powerful synergistic effect. This approach to combating chronic inflammation gives our bodies the tools needed, but we must be willing to help it along. If you would like more information, please contact me.
