Did you know that your gut has more neurons than your spinal cord? Commonly called your “enteric nervous system”, this second brain in your gut sends and receives messages, records experiences and responds to emotions. Have you ever had a “gut feeling”? It is a real thing. If you have been having gut issues, your 2nd brain is compromised. The good news is you can have a huge impact on its health.
First and foremost, reduce your intake of sugar and processed foods, and reduce your toxic load. Your personal care products, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, clothes and building materials inside your home bombard your tissues daily and upset the ratio of good to bad gut bacteria, your gut microbiome. This can result in various diseases and a myriad of health issues, from brain fog and fatigue to IBS and other gut disorders.
As far as how essential oils can help, lemon oil is by far one of the best things you can use on a daily basis. This oil helps cleanse the liver, the organ through which all this other nastiness is filtered. Only water soluble toxins are easily flushed out of your system, fat-soluble toxins need to be converted to water-soluble before they can be flushed out, otherwise they will be stored in fat cells. Sometimes your body will need to manufacture more fat cells if it needs increased storage space for toxins. Lemon can help to convert these toxins and support the liver.
In addition, oils such as Rosemary, Cilantro, and Juniper Berry are known for their detoxifying properties and ability to support healthy liver and kidney function, and Tangerine and Geranium have purifying effects against unhealthy substances.
These oils can be taken internally (only if you have lab-verified proof of their purity), and diluted and rubbed on abdomen and bottoms of feet.
I will be starting my semi-annual 30-day detox and restoration of my gut microbiome very soon, beginning with an on-line class to explain it all. It is a very gentle cleanse, if you are interested in doing this with me, please contact me--listen to your brains!
