Your immune system is a stealth killer and ardent supporter of all things YOU.  It is always working, keeping your body free of invaders that want to harm you.  We notice this system most when it has missed something, because that is when we get sick.

Basically, your body is a system of systems that all have to work together in order for you to function in a healthy manner.  75-80% of your immune system is found in the gut, as well as several other systems and tissues throughout the body.  Probably the best way for you to strengthen this system is to foster a healthy gut microbiome.

If you could eliminate sugar and processed foods from your diet, your body would reward you greatly.  Strive to do this as much as possible to properly fuel your body functions.  In addition, get plenty of sleep, exercise, and control stress.  Essential oils can help in all of these functions, if you need more information on any of these, be sure to contact me.

Oregano, as well as thyme, is a powerful immune booster.  It’s antiviral, antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties can help a deficient immune system do its job.  Other oils to help do these functions are clove, ginger, tea tree (melaleuca), eucalyptus and rosemary.  The citrus oils grapefruit and tangerine are made up almost entirely of limonene, a compound that has shown to have significant effect on the health of many body systems, particularly in protecting the mucosal lining of the intestinal system and supporting the movement of food through the entire system.  Wild orange and lemon also have high amounts of this compound as well as other compounds.  Taking any of these oils internally on a daily basis will help boost the immune system as well as metabolism and support cellular health.

One of the reasons we tend to catch more colds in the fall/winter is because our bodies are taxed very heavily when transitioning from hot weather to cooler weather.  Our immune function is down and less likely to effectively fend off those viral invaders.  It is a smart idea to start supporting it now, so when the kids bring home viruses from school to share with you, your immune system can do its job.
