In keeping with ASCTC’s role as a regional training center, their cross country ski trails on Donner Summit have opened for the season. Skiers can get an early start to the season on several kilometers, currently the only groomed trails for classic and skate skiing in the entire Tahoe region. While the Training Center’s Biathletes, Nordic Comp and Devo teams and Masters XC skiers have already had time on the snow, trails officially opened to season passholders on Sunday, Nov. 19, with good early season coverage over varied terrain suitable for all levels.

Though ASCTC will be closed Thanksgiving day, the regular winter schedule is now in place, meaning the trails are open from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm Wednesdays through Sundays every week. Trail and grooming updates are posted daily on the ASC Training Center’s Facebook page.

Registration is well underway for all the of the Training Center’s winter Nordic ski programs including the popular Sliders and Sonics for youth skiers between the ages of two and thirteen, which are filling up quickly.

For skiers aged 30 and up, the Masters XC program offers challenging workouts twice a week in a fun, social environment. The Comp and Devo teams, which provide a top-notch training and competition framework for serious Nordic racers ages 14 to 18, operate year round, but also accept junior athletes for just the winter season as well.

ASC Training Center’s Biathlon program is well known throughout the United States for providing the only Olympic distance range in the west, as well as a high level training and coaching atmosphere which has led to the development of Olympic caliber athletes. In contrast, the program also welcomes entry level recreational biathletes ages ten and up. There are still openings in the Junior and Senior level programs, and Intro to Biathlon clinics are scheduled for January and February.

For recreational skiers, the Training Center’s Cross Country Center offers an expertly groomed 25 kilometer trail system which is accessible and affordable, with a full season pass priced at only $129 for adults, $75 for teens and $45 for youth. Day passes and rental equipment for classic and skate skiing are also available, with lessons scheduled on request.

In addition to all of ASCTC’s Nordic and Biathlon offerings, downhill skiing and snowboarding programs for all ages are also available. Registration and pass purchases can be completed online at, or call 530-426-3313 for more information.
