Nine years ago, the Foresthill Youth Soccer Club (FYSC) created a separate division for girls to compete with other all girl teams from other clubs within the 49er Youth Soccer League. That year, the girls' division of the FYSC consisted of a single U8 team of six and seven-year-old girls.
Last year, the Club rostered its' first U14 girls’ team. Now, the division has grown to five different teams of girls ranging in age from six through thirteen with the possibility of having its’ first ever U15 team next season.
The U14 team, The Last Jedi, has been successfully competing this year in inter-league play with other teams from the Placer Youth Soccer League. The girls have played teams from Granite Bay, Roseville, Rocklin, Auburn and Grass Valley. With cooperation from the Placer Union High School District, the Last Jedi have been able to play all of its’ home matches on the Foresthill High School’s field. When opposing teams come to Foresthill to play The Last Jedi, the opposing coaches quickly appreciate and comment on the quality of the scenery of our town and the immaculate field that they have the opportunity to play on. Word has gotten out that the Foresthill field is one of the nicest natural turf fields in the area and that the Foresthill Last Jedi are a force to be reckoned with. The combination of having a spectacular field and a growing girls’ division has given the FYSC an opportunity to host a girls’ U14 flight of the CalNorth District VI Cup Tournament on December 1st and 2nd. This flight of the tournament will consist of teams from Sacramento, Carmichael, North Highlands, Placerville and Citrus Heights travelling to Foresthill to compete for a chance to play in the championship match the following week. There will be five games on Saturday commencing at 8:30 AM and four games on Sunday starting at 9:00 AM. The Last Jedi have one game on Saturday at 11:30 and two games on Sunday at 9:00 and 12:30. Please come out and support our local girls as they try and make it to the championship weekend. Admission is free and there will be a snack bar full of goodies.
