When we last checked in on McKenna Anderson, she had just finished two stellar softball seasons at Sierra College, helping the Lady Wolverines to a couple of Big 8 Titles, as well as a trip to the CCCAA State Finals. Anderson nabbed numerous awards in her two campaigns, including All-NorCal, All-State and All-American honors, while batting .377 and .406 respectively.

Anderson, who was the 2016 Foresthill High School Female Athlete of the Year, then decided to take her talents to Oklahoma Baptist University to continue her collegiate career. The battle tested Anderson was a welcome addition to newcomer Sam Maples’ squad, batting .316 for the rebuilding Lady Bison. The next year, Anderson was at a .292 clip, and OBU was an impressive 10-2 in league play, before the pandemic put an end to their promising season.

Fortunately for the Lady Bison, Anderson came back for her 5th year … and what a year it was! Maples inserted the speedy Anderson into the leadoff spot, and #11 responded by hitting .340, while wreaking havoc on the base paths, and playing stellar defense in left field. The Lady Bison advanced to the playoffs in the Great American Conference, drawing a tough opponent in #2 seed Harding University. Anderson promptly went 3x4 off the GAC pitcher of the year, but it wasn’t enough, as the Lady Bison bowed out in the first round.

Coach Maples added this about Anderson, who was her very first recruit at OBU “It was such a joy to coach McKenna and watch her reach her goals as an athlete and as a student at OBU. She thrived in the classroom and I am confident that she will be successful wherever God takes her next.”

Anderson earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication in May of 2021, with a 3.3 GPA. She made the Dean’s List as well as the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll while at OBU, becoming only the second Foresthill High School graduate to earn her Bachelor’s Degree while playing collegiately all 4 years.

The avid outdoorswoman plans on lots of flyfishing this summer in Montana with her Aunt and Uncle. She’s also looking forward to spending time with her boyfriend Sam, and her adorable dog Pepper.

And yes … she plans on watching the Friends reunion!
