Mother’s Day is in just a few days, so why am I writing about phthalates?  Because we tend to want to give to our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, ourselves and friends gifts that we know they love and that smell good, from perfume to bath and body products.

Unfortunately, phthalates are found in most of these products.  They are a class of chemical added to plastics, paper and common consumer products because they are cheap and provide a variety of effects for the manufacturer.  Their usage is so common that a study conducted by the CDC in 2000 revealed high levels of phthalates were found in the blood of ALL the participants.

Study after study shows the harmful effects of these “plasticizers” found in our homes and bodies.  These effects include reproductive toxicity in women and men; insulin resistance and type II diabetes; overweight and obesity, skeletal anomalies, allergy and asthma, cancer, neurodevelopment issues (ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, behavioral issues, lowered IQ), and of course, there’s more.

They are found in processed food wrappers and containers, fragrances (look for anything that says “fragrance” or “parfum” on the label), toys, cleaning products, personal care products, air fresheners, laundry detergent, almost everything we buy.

The first thing to do is to stop buying these products where possible and replace with items that do not contain them.  This is why I will always have a variety of products available in The Outpost at Miner’s Camp that use the power and potency of pure, tested essential oils.

The next thing to do, as you clear out the toxic products from your home (it takes a while), is to clean them out of your cells where they have been collecting over a lifetime of usage.  I can guide you through this process, it is easy to do and has been shown to be quite effective in removing heavy metals and other toxins lingering in our bodies, causing disease and illness.

So this year, give the women in your life a gift that shows them how much you truly love them, give them something that you know they love and that smells good, without the toxins.
